Ora Gelley received her doctorate in English (cinema and media studies emphasis) from the University of Chicago in 2003.  She is currently working on a book based on her doctoral dissertation, "Ingrid Bergman in Rossellini's Italy: Stardom and the Politics of Neorealism." She was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Dartmouth College from 2003 - 2005. She has also taught at Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey) and the University of California, Irvine. Her work has appeared in Film Studies, Critical Inquiry, and Film Criticism.
