She is an Associate Professor of English, an affiliate of the African and African Diaspora Studies Program, and currently Director of Women's Studies. Her first book, Caliban's Curse: George Lamming and the Revisioning of History was published by the University of Michigan Press (1996). She is co-editor of Postcolonialisms: An Anthology of Cultural Theory and Criticism(Rutgers University Press, 2005) and has published articles and essays on Caribbean and African literature. Her areas of interest in research and teaching include postcolonial/anglophone literatures and feminist theory. She is currently completing a book on Anglophone Caribbean literatures.
