            Todd Kennedy

Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow

Todd Kennedy earned his Ph.D. in 20th Century American Literature and Film from the University of South Carolina (2007), his M.A. from New York University (2002), and his B.A. from the Virginia Military Institute (2000).  His dissertation, entitled Hitting the American Highway: The Ontology of the Hobo-Hero in Twentieth Century American Culture, looks at the manner in which Americans have come to define their identity largely through conceptions of space and movement through space.  Kennedy has published articles both on filmic texts and Bob Dylan, and is the former chair of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association’s Hemingway Society.  Most recently, he has published an article titled "The Day the Gay Cowboy Broke up with McCabe & Mrs. Miller: Brokeback Mountain's Love Affair witth Consumerist Conformity" in the journal Intertexts.  He is currently working on a book project sprouting from the topic of his dissertation as well as an article on Sofia Coppola.
