Monday, April 21. Translate the following, with emphasis on motion verbs (see pp. 87-89).

1. «Where is Mother?» «She went to the store.» «I thought she just [только] stepped out for а cigarette [на папиросу].

2. I am going alone by train to Novgorod.

3. My son reads Russian better than English.

4. Nikolai Ivanovich arrived from [из + gen] Moscow by plane.

5. I have to go where even the tsar walks on foot.

6. «Where are you hurrying to?» «Home. I've got to study, tomorrow I have a test [экзамен].

7. In America the cars are bigger; in Russia the apartments are smaller.

8. I'm leaving you, Masha. [use от + gen]. I love another [другую] woman [женщину].

9. I'll go to see Grandmother on foot. It's not far.

9. «Do you really know?» «I know for sure. They're getting divorced.» [разводятся]

10. I look out the window and see: cars are driving past, people are walking.

11. «Are you getting off here?» «At the next station. Go ahead past me.» [проходите].

Wednesday, 23 April. Study the color terms, p. 93, and the prepositional pl, p. 92. Note that the ending is –ах, changing to –ях in soft stems only: о роялях, в иллюстрациях, в дверях, об учителях. Only if the N sg ends in a soft vowel, й, or ь will ях appear (cf. also the instr in ами/ями.) (Velars and hushers do not affect –a-).

Ponder the remarkable P/I relations discussed on pp. 94-95. This is drilled in workbood Л.

Write workbook Г Д Ж И К and Л. И and К, on prep plurals and clothing descriptions, are excellent.
