Grammar: the future tense and нравиться.

Please read 243-4 on the verb нравиться 'please, like'.

Its syntax is: subject (thing or person that pleases) + нравиться (agreeing with subject) + dative (person, typically, that is pleased, or that likes an entity).

So that the Russian

я рада, что вам нравится комната

means: I am glad that to-you is pleasing the room — that is, that you like the room.

This verb is a stem-stressed 2^nd conj. verb. It mostly occurs in the third person (thing X is pleasing to person Y), but can fully conjugate (regularly):

я нравлюсь 'I am pleasing', someone likes me (like люблю, labial > labial plus л

ты нравишься 'you please', someone likes you

он она оно нравится 'he she it pleases'

мы нравимся 'we please'

вы нравитесь 'you please

они нравятся 'they please

Past tense follows the regular pattern for reflexives:

ты нравился (нравилась), мы нравились, вы нравились.
