Our topic this semester will be readings, composition and discussion of Crime and Punishment.

The assignment for this week (5), which you will find in Russian pdf above, is to read the whole of Chapter Two in English, especially those pages (31-49 in our edition) which we will not read in Russian, and then to read the conclusion of Marmeladow's speech and his walk home with Raskol'nikov's help (this text appears on pp. 49-60 of our edition). For Friday after Mardi Gras I ask for a composition of 2 pp. on one of two themes outlined on the pdf.

Note: I'm considering a take-home final for 204, on the order of what we did for 203. These essays can be quite valuable. The essay will be due on the date of the scheduled final for 204 or on a date we agree on.
