Nymphalidae:Heliconiidae

Host Plant: Passiflora sp. (Passionflower)

General description: Black head capsule with short, blunt horns and dull red patches. Body is bright orange red with lateral black spots on all segements and black, spined, non-stinging, sub-dorsal scoli with a black spot at their base on all segments except T1. Claw and prolegs are black as are sub ventral spines and the venter itself.

Observations and comments: There are several Passiflora vines around the city of New Orleans that produce large numbers of Gulf Fritillary (such as the one on the corner of Magazine and Leontine) that should be preserved.
