ESRI Authorized Training in Downtown New Orleans
Introduction to ArcGIS I
Chris
Swalm and Leslie Morgan are ESRI authorized instructors at Tulane University.
Chris has a Master's degree in Geographic Computer Techniques, and Leslie
has a Master's degree in Biostatistics. Together, they teach a graduate
level Geographic Information Systems (GIS) class and have been involved
in several research projects at the School of Public Health and Tropical
Medicine, including Prostate Cancer and GIS, Mosquito Habitat and Severe
Malaria Disease Distribution in Kenya, Africa, and The Mississippi River
Water Quality Database Project.
Though their area of application of GIS is in public health, this course
is authored by ESRI and is relevant to all audiences interested in gaining
basic GIS skills.
This two-day course utilizes ArcGIS 9.x software and provides the foundation for becoming a successful ArcView®, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo user. This course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to query a GIS database, manipulate tabular data, edit spatial and attribute data, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts. Participants learn how to use ArcMap and ArcCatalog in conjunction with ArcToolbox to provide a complete GIS software solution.
This course is intended for those who are new to ArcGIS and new to GIS in general. Participants should feel comfortable operating in a windows environment.
This course provides the fundamental
knowledge and experience needed to enroll in Introduction to ArcGIS II as
well as several other Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) courses.
Many of the topics covered in this course are similar to those in Migrating
from ArcView 3.x to ArcView 8. Participants who complete this course should
not enroll in Migrating from ArcView 3.x to ArcView 8.
