Tutorial 5, Case Problem 2

The Camberlain Civic Center

Tutorial 5, Case Problem 2 is presented in your textbook starting on page 336. You've been hired by the Center's Events Manager to update the Website. As a demonstration of the new design, you are asked to create a calendar page for the month of February and other pages need to complete the site. You are given a mockup of the page design, along with sample text and image files.

Before beginning this task:
  1. Start early. Don't underestimate how long it may take to complete this assignment. After all, it is your Mid-term Exam and represents 20% of your final grade in our class.
  2. Read Tutorial 5 in your text book. Practice with Case Problem 1
  3. This assignment requires that you understand HTML <tables> tags using external style sheets to control table format and styles.

To complete this task:
  1. You are provided with a text file named febtxt.htm as a starting point for the Chamberlain Civic Center Home page. Save and rename it feb.htm
  2. You are provided with starting points for two cascading style sheets. Save and rename ccctxt.ccs to be ccc.ccs. Save and rename caltxt.ccs to be calendar.ccs.
  3. You are provided with needed image files -- ccc.jpg is the Chamberlain Civic Center logo image, and all of the image files needed to make the table background look like a spiral binder.
  4. Use the instructions starting of p.337 of the textbook to complete the Chamberlain Civic Center Webpage for February events, and to complete the two cascading style sheets need to correctly formant the events table. When complete your Webpage will look similar the one pictured in Figure 5-77 on p.337 of your textbook. You are to consider the completed February Calendar page as the Chamberlain Civic Center Home Page.
  5. Every time you make any changes to your Style Sheets, you should use W3C CSS Validation Service to find errors quickly, making it much easier to make needed corrections.
  6. As you make small changes, use your browser to view your WebPages. Use W3C Markup Validation Service to catch HTML mistakes as you make them.
  7. Now, using your two existing cascading style sheets, make five (5) new webpages. One each for Events, Box Office, Facilities, Directions, and Contact Us. All six of your Webpages will be linked together using the Menu items of the Home Page. Your five new pages will have unique content of your choosing (be creative), and design consistent with your Home Page.
  8. Use W3C Markup Validator to insure that your Webpages conform to XHTML 1.0 Transitional or XHTML 1.0 Strict as specified by your
  9. Test your Webpage under a variety of browsers.

When you are finished:
  1. Use FTP to upload your completed web pages to your Tulane Student Web Space.
  2. Copy the URL of your website's home page and paste it into a new eMail message to George (gnorth@tulane.edu). Subject of this eMail MUST be "Tutorial 5 - Case Problem 2"
  3. For your additional knowledge, complete both Tutorial 3 and 4. This is not an assignment and will not be graded. Send URLs for this and I will provide you with feeback.
