City of New Orleans Provides Free
Wireless Internet Access
On Tuesday, November 29, the City of New Orleans became the first city in the country to provide free wireless internet service. Thanks to equipment donated by Intel Corp., Tropos Networks Inc. and Pronto Networks, wireless internet access is being provided throughout the CBD and French Quarter. The wireless mesh network will also serve as a backup communications network capable of carrying internet telephone traffic in the event of another storm that disrupts existing cellphone services.
