President's Speech at the Official Launching of a National Campaign on the Control and Prevention of IDD:

Text of President H. E Ali Hassan Mwinyi's speech given on April 21,1994 when he officially launched a National Campaign on Control and prevention of IDD. The President noted that he was delighted to launch the campaign on the total elimination of IDD in Tanzania by the year 200 which he and other Heads of State deliberated on at the World Summit for children. He pointed out that the campaign started with the commissioning of eight salt location plants that jointly have a capacity of producing 106,000 metric tons. He congratulated TFNC, SIDA, UNICEF, and the Netherlands Government for conceiving the ideas for the project and supporting it technically and financially.

Public Service Announcements for the Elimination of IDD

Three 30-second public service information clips on the subject of iodine deficiency disorders were created and produced by Brazilian animator Darlan Rosa, winner of the ICCIDD/UNICEF storyboard competition. The clips are entitled: "The Importance of Iodine in the Fetus Formation"; "The Importance of Iodine for Intelligence Development"; and "The Importance of Iodine for Nation Building".

The clips are available for use by private and public organizations who wish to promote awareness of iodine deficiency disorders.
