Ilene Speizer, PhD, is an assistant professorin the Department of International Health and Development.  As a demographer, Dr. Speizer has been involved in a number of studies of husbands', wives', and couples' fertility desires and family planning use, specifically in sub-Saharan Africa.  Her research interests also include the measurement of the quality and availability of family planning services, and issues in adolescent reproductive health both in the United States and the developing world.  Dr. Speizer teaches the cources 1) Introduction to Population Studies and 2) Intermediate Research Methods for Population Health and Nutrition Problems in the International Context.  Prior to joining the faculty at Tulane in 1996, Dr. Speizer was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
