The total annual national production of iodized salt is 18,000 tons. (2001)

    

The intended level of salt iodization at the point of production is .006%-0.01%

    

Large-scale salt iodization started in 1962.

    

There is currently one iodized salt producer.

    

Potassium iodate is used to iodize salt.

     Bulk Polyethylene in knitted/meshed bags that are lined with plastic are used to package the salt.
    

Salt iodine content at production level is assessed by manufacturer quality control checks using 2 hour sampling and analysis.

     The average retail cost of iodized salt is $8-10 per 500g.
