Clinical Vitamin A Deficiency -- There is no recent survey of vitamin A

Sub-clinical Vitamin A Deficiency -- World Vision Senegal performed and end of project survey (Project MICAH I) in 2000 in 4 districts, which found the prevalence of low serum retinol (<0.7 mmol/l) of 2% in a survey of 396 children.

Supplementation
Program Description
	The national supply Pharmacy (PNA) has controlled the vitamin A destined for health districts since 1996 .
	The supplementation of children and post partum women with vitmain A is one of the components of the Integrated Packet of Nutrition Activities (PAIN), started in 1998 by the Senegal government with the partner support of development agencies (USAID, NGOs, UN).
	Two campaigns of supplementation with Vitamin A to children 6 to 59 months have been organized since 1999. One coupled with NID’s, and the other with National Micronutrient days.
	There is a policy to address vitamin A supplementation for mothers within 8 weeks of delivery.
	Vitamin A supplementation is given through National Micronutrient Days.

	MONITORING

Clinical and Sub-clinical VAD
	The surveys mentioned previously are not being repeated.
	The indicators used for monitoring clinical VAD and sub-clinical VAD were not reported.

Supplementation
	Capsules are monitored as a part of needs assessments from the regions.
	Distribution and follow-up is done by the regional medical representative of the Health Post.

Fortification
	There is no fortification to monitor.
