       Spring Symposium:
    Survival Tactics for Graduate Students

The graduate students in the Department of French and Italian and ISN invite you to participate in our Spring 2000 symposium on issues key to the graduate experience.  In addition to 3 workshops, we have an ongoing VIRTUAL component to this symposium in the form of an archive of documents and a discussion board.   Join us on line and in person to discuss what matters most to YOU!

This event is conceived of as a general discussion and information-gathering session in which graduate students share their concerns and engage in peer advising/problem-solving.  Sample discussion topics include:

  • choosing a dissertation topic/director

  • juggling the demands of teaching and research

  • completing the dissertation

  • finding outside funding (check out our resources on this topic, by clicking the link)

Panelists include: Andy Corrigan (Head of Information Services at the Howard Tilton Memorial Library), Terry Hoyt (Philosophy Department), Michele Heintz (Department of French and Italian), Katherine Gracki (Department of French and Italian), Laurel Porcari (School of Architecture), Blake Simmons (Engineering Department), Suzanne del Gizzo (English Department), and Joseph McRae (Department of French and Italian).  Karen Reichard (Department of French and Italian) will moderate the discussion.

Let us know what else you're interested in by getting the discussion going early on our Survival Discussion Board!

A light lunch will be provided.
