How the Opera Lady Got Her Name
It all started with this guy who used to work with The Man Behind the Mic. Before that, I just called myself "Julia," on the air, because, well, that is my name. Has been, in fact, for some time now. I was perfectly happy with it.
Then
in comes this guy, and he's using up the last shots on his role of film. You
know, when I do that sort of thing, I take pictures of magnolia trees and people
I actually know, and things like that. He decides he has to take a picture of
me while I am trying to get some coffee in my system. I wasn't pleased, but
I figured that would be the last of it.
The next week, I'm trying to do my show, and I hear that Mr. Camera has been running around showing this God-awful picture to hoards of unsuspecting people with the announcement, "This is what the Opera Lady looks like!" I personally envision a phalanx of curled grimaces and shoulder-flinching. After some manuevering, I managed to get the picture, which is now stuck to my 'fridge, as a reminder to stay out of the ice-cream.
But after that, "The Opera Lady" thing kind of stuck. I assure you I don't mean the moniker as a title or anything If I had to pick a "true" Opera Lady it would be...Hmmmm...Kiri Te Kanawa?
