April 2016: Kate presented a platform presentation on her work at the OSA BIOMED Topical Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She also presented a platform talk at the 32nd SBEC in Shreveport, LA.
February 2016: Mei and David each presented platform presentations on their work at SPIE Photonics West BIOS.
October 2015: Dr. Brown presented an invited talk at the OSA Frontiers in Optics Conference in San Jose, CA.
September 2015: Dr. Carola Wenk (Tulane Computer Science), Dr. Brittany Fasy (Montana State University Computer Science), and Dr. Brown received a grant from the NSF-NIH QuBBD program. This interdisciplinary project aims to develop quantitative descriptors for prostate pathology images based on concepts from computational geometry. Dr. Andrew Sholl (Tulane Pathology) is a collaborator on the project.
September 2015: Dr. Brown presented an invited talk at the SCI X Conference in the Craver Award Session honoring Dr. Ji-Xin Cheng. Congratulations Dr. Cheng on receiving the Craver Award!
August 2015: The TBL lab received an NIH R33 grant from the National Cancer Institute Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) program. The project aims to develop rapid ex vivo microscopy technology for rapid characterization of the quality of cancer biospecimens for diagnostic and precision medicine applications. Co-investigators on the project include Dr. Michelle Lacey (Tulane Mathematics) and Dr. Andrew Sholl (Tulane Pathology).
August 2015: New paper on rapid prostate biopsy imaging with SIM published in Cancer Research. The paper was also highlighted as Recommended by F1000 Prime.
June 2015: The TBL lab presented 3 platform presentations at the European Conferences on Biomedical Optics (ECBO) in Munich Germany on David, Mei, and Kate’s work. Also, Dr. Brown participated in the “Hot Topics: Light for Life” session and talked about emerging technologies for intraoperative surgical oncology guidance.
June 2015: Peter Lawson, an NSF Bioinnovation IGERT Fellow, joins the TBL lab – Welcome Pete! Pete will join the lab full time after a summer internship at the FDA.

September 2014: Bihe (Ellie) Hu joins the TBL as a Ph.D. student. Ellie comes to us from the Britton Chance Center for Biomedical Photonics at Huazhong University in China, where she obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering. Welcome Ellie!!
July 2014: Dr. Brown presented our work on intraoperative tumor margin assessment at the first EPIC Biophotonics Workshop on Intra-operative Assessment of Tumor Resection Margins in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
July 2014: Dr. Brown is named the Paul H. and Donna D. Flower Professor in Engineering.
June 2014: David Tulman joins the TBL as a Ph.D. student. David is an IGERT Bioinnovation Fellow, and comes to us from Ohio State University. After spending this summer at the FDA, he will join the lab full-time in the Fall. Welcome David!!

June 2014: The TBL has moved into our additional laboratory and office space in the J. Bennett Johnston building on the Tulane Medical Center Campus downtown! This extension of our space will significantly enhance our work and collaborations with patients and clinicians.
