Advanced Personality and Social Psychology
Advanced Personality and Social Psychology
Psyc668
- Description
- Psyc668 is an opportunity to learn about research in personality and social
psychology by participating in on-going research projects. Specific requirements vary
across students, depending on the nature of the research in which they bcome involved.
For some projects, students might learn how to code and enter data; for other projects,
students might act as experimenters or confederates. The skills acquired, plus "hands-on"
experience with reseach, may be particularly useful to students aiming toward graduate
study .
- Prerequisites
- Prerequisties for enrolling in Psyc668 are left to the discretion of the faculty
advisor (Ruscher or O'Neal), and enrollment is by faculty permission only. At a
minimum, students should have taken Psyc212 and Psyc343. Psyc344 or Psyc345 also
may be required so that students maximally benefit from the experience. Ordinarily,
students do not enroll in Psyc668 more than two semesters. When exceptions are made,
the benefits to the student should be clearly specified. Upon the discretion of the faculty
advisor, the course then might be taken pass/fail.
- Guidelines
- 1. A contract between supervisor and student should be constructed.
Expectations should be delineated in a specific, clear-cut fashion. The expectations
include, but are not limited to, the number of hours students will devote to certain activities,
specific goals for the student to acheive during the semester, and bases for evaluation.
- 2. Students should expect to devote at least three hours per week per academic credit
in laboratory-related activities (i.e., between 120-150 hours per semester). The extent to
which this workload might be distributed unevenly across the semester should be noted in
the contract.
