Sed Dynamics lab receives funding to study fractionation in turbidity currents

Sediment Fractionation in turbidity currents

We just received notification that Chevron will be funding a set of experiments to be conducted in the deepwater basin housed in Tulane’s sediment dynamics laboratory on fractionation of sediment in turbidity currents. The experiments will follow a pilot study performed in June on this subject. The work is part of a collaboration with Colorado School of Mines (CSM) faculty member David Pyles and CSM PhD student Jane Stammer. We will be looking at the hydrodynamic fractionation of minerals, grain sizes, and grain shapes in distributive deepwater environments.
