SedStrat class visits the Ouachita Mountains to explore the stratigraphic record of an ancient source to sink system

Students in Tulane's undergraduate Sedimentology and Stratigraphy class recently took a 4 day field trip to the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas to investigate the stratigraphic record of an ancient source to sink sediment transport system. Many of the graduate students in the TSDS group joined the trip and helped instruct the field trip, including Kevin Reece how is the teaching assistant for the course. Over the course of the four days we looked at the following formations: the Stanely Shale (ultra deep-water), Jackfork (slope deposits), Atoka (marginal marine), and joined Hartshorne (fluvial). Lots of great observations made by a very enthusiastic group this year and some great weather for camping!
