LS-LAMP Scholars Program

In coordination with the Center for Engaged Learning at Tulane (CELT), LAMP formed the LAMP Scholars Program to increase the number of minority STEM students participating in lab research at Tulane. CELT and LAMP recogize the importance of undergraduate participation in Tulane's research culture and the benefits of working with faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. In line with CELT's focus on Research Engagement, participants in research will experience the excitement of discovery, develop specialized knowledge of thier major area of study, encourage research presentation and publication, and develop their potential for graduate or professional school.

Each semester student researchers and faculty mentors will be selected from all STEM disciplines to work together on research projects. Student learning objectives include application of advanced research skills and activities, improvement of communication and presentation skills, increased intellectual curosity, confidence, and motivation, clearer understanding of career interests, undergratuate retention and the increased likelihood to pursue graduate/advanced degrees. Faculty learning objectives include enhanced understanding of effective mentoring and the likelihood to continue to conduct research with the participation of minority STEM unbdergraduate students.
