Issued every several years (latest was published in 2008), this handbook surveys political and economic conditions of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the 48 countries within the region. Each country entry includes historical and economic essays, a statistical survey, a directory of the government, organizations, media, banks, etc. The 2004 edition is arranged as follows: Part one is a general survey composed of introductory articles on the entire regions and several sub-regions; and the second part is divided into country surveys consisting of a section on geography (including small maps), historical and economic articles, statistical survesy, and bibliiography when available. Part three contains regional information: primary commodities, international organization, research institutions, and periodicals and books relevant to the area.
