CANARY IN ITS CAGE

The "lady friend" of my uncle’s and a "patient" of my father’s is gesturing with her hands up. She lives in a sweet perfumed upstairs apartment by Lee Circle. I meet her one Sunday morning, when my Father takes my brothers and sister and me, all dressed up in our Sunday School clothes, to visit her.She has dyed blond hair and a lot of heavy make-up dressed in a thin negligee with feathers around her neck. She has a yellow canary bird in a gold wire cage. Two coathangers. A woman lying down. A man above her. Three traffic lights. A home delivery satchel with a baby inside...it is like my Father’s satchel which he keeps under the stairs in his study. A man is mowing the lawn.

. My Mother finds out about our visit to Ms West from my little sister and she is furious!
