The Goddess of the Heavenly Vault

THE GODDESS OF THE HEAVENLY VAULT

I bend over to protect my brothers from my Father’s strap. They would fight over the marble game on the circle of the Oriental rug, I was behind Father’s giant size reading lounge chair, hiding reading his medical books, as I was forbidden to see them. They were considered unnatural for a girl. When the fight got loud, Father would come and ask, "Who started it?" Usually the younger of the two got it. I knew that he would not hit a girl, so I would get inbetween him and the boys and give them a chance to "beat it". By then, Father would calm down and they would be gone.

In the upper left are the little boys running down the hill. To the right is a sailor modeled after the Modigliano painting.Below is another bent over symbol and to the left is a man leaning on one arm and then sitting up. Even the chair backs repeat the bent over design.

When I finished the color etching, an art professor asked me if I had seen a book onnn Egyptian mythology. I had not. He said that hte hovering figure was just like the ancient Goddess of the Heavenly Vault, who leaned over the earth to protect it frm morning to evening. My hair long to the ground made the same shape.

Collective unconscious, ancient symbols, are in our DNA. I wonder if five thougsand years from now, if our computers and aireopace shapes will be added to the collection.
