An eighteen-year-old came to the delivery room through the emergency room and was ready to deliver in about fifteen minutes. She had had no prenatal care, she said, because she was not married; this was her second pregnancy. She was taken care of swiftly and well, and after a few minutes, she settled down from screaming and delivered a pretty little girl. At first, I found myself feeling sorry that at the time a woman needs support from her husband and family, this pathetic little woman was by herself.
