He moves slowly through the world

He moves slowly through the world
as through a crawlspace
and finds himself
as on a Sunday
with a lazy and quiet anxiety.
He takes in the air
like a connoisseur
and records every encounter
like a diligent accountant.
He is curious but adventurous.
Like everyone else,
he wears a mask,
but his is diaphanous.
Like a bodhisattva,
he wants to set us free,
but he too is
a creature of habit.
He always pours too much milk
into his cereal bowl.
He always has a danish
with his coffee.
He sometimes laughs
at his own expectations.
He sees a distant something
and wonders when he will arrive.
