According to historian Henri Schindler, Bonnecaze "was the most elusive of Carnival artists, and the one most devoted to the fantastic." To Schindler's eye, her strengths were theology and whimsy, and other themes for which she designed were Visions of Others Worlds, The Hindoo Heavens, Dumb Society, and Asgard and the Gods.
