What We Offer

As the main support group for Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, Tulane University, we work to promote the library's mission of supporting learning through books. How do we do that?

Sunday afternoon programs

Our quarterly programs provide the chance to rub minds and elbows with Tulane people and other speakers outstanding in their fields. The receptions following the programs give us Friends a chance to exchange ideas with the speakers and to socialize with other Friends.

Student coffees

The student coffees, put on twice a year during exams, give us a chance to see what's on students' minds while students get a chance to learn about us Friends. They also show our care and concern for students who are trying their best to use the library as a refuge for studying for finals.

The Friends Awards

The Friends Awards honor deserving members of the library staff for outstanding service. This year's awards went to Kevin Fontenot, a student worker in Special Collections, Barbara Smith, a Library Assistant from Information Services, and to Peggy Whitehouse, Librarian in Cataloging.

Library staff party

The Friends host a party for library staff every year in April during National Library Week to show our appreciation for their hard work.  It is at this party that we present the Friends Awards.
