Recent OCLC Announcements for Products and Services

 

BioOne Trials Available Beginning March 1, 2001


Free 30-day BioOne trials will be available beginning Thursday, March 1, 2001. Paid subscriptions will be available beginning April 1, 2001. Registrations for trials are now being accepted and may be made by visiting the BioOne Web site or by contacting Jeff Downing, BioOne Marketing Manager, at Amigos, 972-851-8000, 1-800-843-8482, ext. 154, or downing@amigos.org.

BioOne is an aggregation service of the full text of highly-cited, high-impact journals published by prestigious societies in the biological sciences. As of February 20, there are 37 titles from 30 publishers, with an expected 40 titles at official launch on April 1, 2001. Coverage will be from at least 2000 on for all titles.

Cataloging Internet Resources Using MARC 21 and AACR

"Cataloging Internet Resources Using MARC 21 and AACR" is now available from OCLC regional service providers. Developed under the leadership of the OCLC Institute in partnership with Amigos, NELINET, SOLINET, and consultant Steven Miller, this is the first offering in the OCLC Online Library Learning series as well as Amigos' e-learning initiative. Designed for self-paced and self-directed study, the course covers current cataloging rules and MARC fields essential for libraries to provide efficient, effective, and uniform description for Internet resources.

OCLC ILLiad software, is an web based integrated package for document delivery and ILL functions, including Docline!


OCLC WILL DISTRIBUTE ILLIAD SOFTWARE TO HELP LIBRARIES STREAMLINE INTERLIBRARY LOAN PROCESS

OCLC has finalized its agreement with Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties and Atlas Systems to license and distribute ILLiad software, a leading interlibrary loan management tool that automates routine interlibrary loan functions and provides sophisticated tracking statistics to library staff. The software will be licensed and distributed by OCLC under the name OCLC ILLiad Resource Sharing Management Software.

ILLiad is a complete system encompassing a Web-based customer interface, automated borrowing and lending functions, and electronic document delivery in one integrated package. Benefits include library end-users creating and tracking their own ILL requests; ILL staff importing OCLC, RLIN and Docline requests; materials delivered electronically to customers; and real-time statistics from any Web browser.

OCLC, working with Amigos and other OCLC affiliated U.S. regional networks, will be the sole licensor of OCLC ILLiad software. Atlas Systems will continue to develop and support the software.

OCLC Online Cataloging System Hours

Beginning October 29, 2000, OCLC online cataloging system hours are expanding. New system hours are 24 hours a day except Sundays 2:00 A.M. - 6:00 A.M. U.S. Eastern Time. Services affected include OCLC Cataloging, OCLC Interlibrary Loan, OCLC Selection, and OCLC Union List. The OCLC system will no longer have a midweek system shutdown on Thursday night between 2-3 A.M. and will be available beginning at 6 A.M. on Sunday, 6 hours earlier.
