HSOCLCUG Executive Board Meeting MinutesPresentation to the Health Sciences OCLC Users Group MeetingPalace Café, New Orleans, LA Saturday, October 27, 2001
Due to the location and informality of the Executive Board meeting, traditional minutes were not recorded, but a general summary of the issues that Mary Holt wanted to cover at the Business Meeting follows. President Mary Holt called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. Mary would like to create an interest group for access services (interlibrary loan and document delivery) within HSOCLCUG and have a program for that group at the Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Association. One of the concerns of the interest group is union listing. NLM and OCLC are testing the transfer of holdings records in MARC21 format from SERHOLD into OCLC, which could then be loaded into a local system. Susan Barnes from the Pacific Northwest region is working on the test pilot. Several HSOCLCUG members have volunteered to serve as liaisons to other professional library organizations, particularly those involved in establishing standards. Mary proposed that HSOCLCUG have only one elected officer, which would be the President-elect. The position of Recording Secretary would be eliminated with that position's responsibilities split between the Web Site Administrator and the Editor of Start of Message. A revision of the bylaws is necessary for this change. Mary will be presenting a resolution to load the MeSH authority records as an authority file of OCLC's WorldCat. The resolution is a follow-up to the proposal to load MeSH into the Cooperative Online Resource Catalog (CORC). Mary would like to hold an informal meeting of HSOCLCUG at the Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Association as well as at the Midwinter Meeting of the American Library Association. The latter meeting will be in New Orleans, LA. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Lynne B. Bowman |
