Library Mission Statement

The Rudolph Matas Library serves as the primary resource library for the Tulane University Health Sciences Center comprising the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and the National Primate Center. The library supports the teaching, research, and patient care functions of the health sciences center through the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of biomedical information.

Who has access to the Library?

The library is open to Tulane University and LSU Health Sciences Center:

  • faculty
  • students
  • staff

The library participates in the CALL/LALINC program which permits authorized faculty and graduate students at participating colleges and universities to check out books from member libraries. Individuals not affiliated with these institutions but who have special research needs should submit a letter to the library requesting permission to use specific resources. Requests will be reviewed and decisions will be made on a case by case basis.

The Tulane Medical Library is a member of the National Network of the Libraries of Medicine and is accredited under the relevant standards of the:

  • Liaison Committee for Medical Education
  • Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Heath Care Organizations
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
