Charles Aloysius Luzenberg

Dean, Medical College of Louisiana, 1835 - 1839
Chairman, Department of Surgery, 1835 - 1837

One of the original professors to sign the Prospectus creating the Medical College of Louisiana, Dr. Luzenberg is credited by some as the driving force (along with Dr. Thomas Hunt) behind the creation of the college. He served as its first Professor of Surgery before succeeding Hunt as Dean, serving one contentious term from 1835 - 1839.

Dr. Luzenberg also founded the Franklin Infirmary (one of the first hospitals in New Orleans), founded the Louisiana Medico-Chirurgical Society and served for many years on the board of Charity Hospital.
