At 8:55 A.M. on Thursday October 24, 1996 a Tulane University Medical Center employee was the victim of an armed robbery that occurred in the 1400 block of Cleveland Avenue. The victim had just parked her vehicle in the Saratoga Street garage and was walking alone on Cleveland Avenue towards LaSalle Street. The victim was approached by the suspect who demanded her purse and displayed a chrome plated semi-automatic handgun which was tucked in his waistband. The victim complied with the robber's demands and the suspect fled river-bound on Cleveland Avenue towards Loyola Avenue. The suspect is described as a Black Male, late teens or early twenties, 5-11 to 6-0 tall, thin build, wearing a red or burgundy shirt and blue jeans. The victim was not injured. New Orleans Police Department is also investigating the incident.
Tulane University Medical Center Police had patrolled this area just prior to the robbery and did not notice anyone acting is a suspicious manner.
Two other robberies were reported to New Orleans Police where the description was similar to the one listed above. Those robberies did not involve Tulane University Medical Center, however.
