Lauren Kesgen Guidry began her performance career playing rock and funk music in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina . After receiving the Ione M. Allen Music Scholarship to UNC-Asheville, Lauren earned a B.A. in classical guitar performance and was awarded the honor of Distinction in Music for her graduating class. Lauren completed her graduate studies in classical guitar under Elias Barreiro at Tulane University, where she was awarded the Maynard J. Klein/Friedrich E. Stoll '48, M.D Musician's Award.
Lauren has performed classical guitar in numerous large and small venues throughout the United States , including the international Bele Chere Festival of Asheville, Pack Place Auditorium, Trinity Episcopal Church, the University of Houston, and the Biltmore Estate. She has participated in master classes with Randall Avers, Valerie Hartzell, Elliot Frank and Miroslav Loncar, and has studied with Christopher Berg and Frank Koonce. Her debut recording, 20th Century Guitar Works, features a contemporary repertoire.
In May of 2006, Lauren was bestowed the honor of being chosen as the featured soloist of the Classical Minds Guitar Festival of Houston, where she performed the world premiere of Olga Amelkina-Vera's Concertino on the Folias for guitar orchestra and guitar solo. Lauren returned to the Classical Minds Guitar Festival in 2007 as co-director, faculty member, and concert performer, sharing the roster with international competition winners and concert artists Andrew Zohn, Steven Aron, and Randall Avers.
Also active as a teacher, Lauren maintains a private teaching studio in New Orleans and is on the faculty of Tulane University and the Lusher School's Summer Arts Intensive. She continues to play concerts both locally and nationally.
