SEQUENZE CONCERTANTI for String Orchestra

Commissioned by the Louisiana Sinfonietta

"Sequenze Concertanti", a work by Tulane professor of composition, Barbara Jazwinski, was commissioned by the Louisiana Sinfonietta. Sunday's premiere performance showed a work of interest, featuring layered rhythms and episodes both static and of Bartokian ferocity.

                                            The Advocate, Baton Rouge

CONCERTO FOR CELLO AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The two-movement Cello Concerto by Barbara Jazwinski...took form through tense and edgy calligraphy, including a finely delineated cadenza...The concerto ended with colorful lyricism.

                                            The Times Picayune

TO THE EVENING STAR for Soprano, Flute, Violin, and Piano

Commissioned by the Chamber Music Center at the Composers' Conference, Wellesley College

VISIONS for Clarinet Solo

Barbara Jazwinski's "Visions" for clarinet solo avoids the extensions of timbre and scale found in much of the newest clarinet literature... while still sounding very modern. Long arpeggios and melodic lines traverse the instrument's entire range, hinting at motivic relationships that are never explicitly stated. This piece shows off Lamneck's "traditional playing" in its full glory.

                                                    Fanfare

...a glorious solo "Visions" by Barbara Jazwinski.

                                                    Improjazz, France

INVOCATIONS for Violin, Cello, and Piano

"Invocations" by Barbara Jazwinski features a unique interplay of stylistic conventions in a superb interpretation by the Warsaw Trio.

                                                    Ruch Muzyczny, Poland

REMEMBERING THE MUSES for Women's Choir a Cappella

MUSIC FOR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

First Prize in the Nicola Di Lorenzo Composition Contest

INCANTATIONS for Violin Solo

DIALOGHI for Piano Solo

"Dialoghi" is composed of quick, violent gestures and short, isolated bursts of action, and it carries quite an impact.

                                                 The Times Picayune

STRYGA for Symphony Orchestra

From the beginning sforzando and overhang of menace - all low register winds and brass - to the closing moments - blasts of percussion and brass - there emerges a kaleidoscope of instrumental combinations that is sometimes dizzying, often fascinating.

...Barbara Jazwinski's demands on the listener are uncompromising; the voyage to her musical bailiwick is a worthy undertaking.

                                                ILWC Journal

FLOWER SHADOWS for Soprano, Flute (piccolo), Clarinet, Violin, Cello, and Piano

STRING TRIO

And a new String Trio, by Barbara Jazwinski gave glimpses of a young talented voice, creating shimmers and bursts of mysterious string sound - as if wisps of Webern and Bartok were drifting by, inspiring reminiscences of things past.

                                            The New York Times

THE SEVENTH NIGHT OF THE SEVENTH MOON for Soprano, Clarinet, and Piano

This setting of a translated Japanese text was notable for purity of expression and a direct manner in which slight, exotic embellishments enhanced rather than obscured mood.

                                            The Times-Picayune

SEXTET for Flute (alto flute), Clarinet (bass clarinet) Trumpet, Double Bass, and Percussion

Prince Pierre of Monaco Musical Composition Award

THREE MINIATURES for Flute and Piano
