"Sequenze Concertanti", a work by
Tulane professor of composition, Barbara Jazwinski, was commissioned by the
Louisiana Sinfonietta. Sunday's premiere performance showed a work of interest,
featuring layered rhythms and episodes both static and of Bartokian ferocity.

Jazwinski...took form through tense and edgy calligraphy, including a finely

VISIONS for Clarinet Solo
Barbara Jazwinski's "Visions" for
clarinet solo avoids the extensions of timbre and scale found in much of the
newest clarinet literature... while still sounding very modern. Long arpeggios
and melodic lines traverse the instrument's entire range, hinting at motivic
relationships that are never explicitly stated. This piece shows off Lamneck's
"traditional playing" in its full glory.
