Tulane University Department of Music

Call for Works

There is no limitation on the type or length of a composition. Each school should submit approximately 45 minutes of music. Participating schools determine their own selection criteria and every attempt will be made to include all submissions. Selected composers are required to attend both the rehearsal and performance of their work. We strongly suggest that the composer/performer supply everything necessary, with the exception of PA, for the execution of the composition. We will do everything we can to accomodate various needs. The specifications of our setup are listed at the bottom of the page.

Early Submission – for compositions including cello and/or soprano saxophone – Due September 27th.

Tulane's Maxim Samorov (cello) and Loyola's Bhob Rainey (soprano saxophone) have committed to performing 3 to 5 pieces each on their respective instruments. These works will be selected by conference between the Tulane LaTex staff and the performers. Due to the time needed for selection and preparation, these submissions will be due by Thursday, September 27. Early submissions must include a score for cello or soprano saxophone, as well as any materials necessary for learning/rehearsing the piece.

Submissions will be accepted via an online process. Stay tuned for specific directions.

CONCERT FORMAT:

We will be hosting this event in Dixon Concert Hall with an 8.1 channel playback system. We will use ProTools 7.4.2 for playback with a DIGI002 firewire audio interface running 8 channels via ADAT to a Yamaha 01V96. Audio files should, therefore, be in a ProTools compatible format -- .AIF or .WAV. Video should be in Quicktime .MOV format. ProTools 7.4.2 and Max/MSP 5 will be available on the host computer. We have a range of microphones, a grand piano, and a variety of other performance devices, however, as noted above, we encourage composers to supply everything necessary for the execution of their piece.
