- Most of the contents in carton 1 of 5 show discoloration from the impact of time and some are brittle. They have been placed between sheets of acid-free paper to enhance preservation. Some of the old publications are bound with metal staples. Removing staples would damage the books so they were left in place at the time of processing. However, some staples (especially in old issues of "The Newcomb Arcade") are rusting badly and have stained the paper.

Biographical/Historical note
Jean Bragg is the leading dealer in Newcomb Arts and Crafts in the country. It has been her passion for over twenty years; and she has contributed significantly to the knowledge of the revolutionary Art School and its crafts by lectures and through publication of articles in trade magazines and exhibition and reference catalogs. At a time when it was not yet popular to collect Newcomb crafts, Jean Bragg recognized its exceptional artistic value. Today, with so many new discoveries in the field, she continues to educate the public in collecting Newcomb crafts and to set their value in the marketplace.

Scope and Contents note
Items in Box 1 of 5 date back to the early and mid 1910s. They are in a manila folder labeled “Wanda Simmons” and include personal correspondence, menus, flyers, etc. Most items show discoloration from the impact of time and some are brittle. They have been placed between sheets of acid-free paper to enhance preservation.
One manila folder in Box 1 contains papers that were bound by metal rings. Metal rings were removed and replaced by archival clips. Papers have handwritten glaze formulas, as well as drawings and information about kilns. There is also a typed list of supplies dated to 5/5/31. All contents in folder were photocopied. Photocopies were placed in a separate manila folder labeled "Photocopies of Newcomb Formulas--Pottery--Sally Main".
Box 1 contains old publications that are bound with metal staples. Removing staples would damage the books so they were left in place at the time of processing. However, some staples (especially in old issues of the Arcade) are rusting badly and have stained the paper.
Scope and Contents note
The bulk of the collection consists of volumes of the "Jambalaya" ranging from year 1901 to year 1941. Other materials in the collection include issues of "The Tulanian" and "The Newcomb Arcade," art books, newspapers, and magazines, some of which feature Newcomb College. Of particular note is a notebook containing glaze formulas for Newcomb Pottery, and a box of material that belonged to Walter Bob.
Organization and Arrangement
Material was left in the five boxes in which it was found.
Six copies of a 1930 issue of the National Geographic Magazine featuring Louisiana were found in NAC 1 of 5. The issue contains photos of Newcomb College art students and swimming athletes. One copy was set aside and filed in the Ready Reference Drawer of the Archives in a folder labeled "The National Geographic Magazine, Vol. LVII, No. 4, April 1930 (featuring Newcomb College)."
