Most of the contents in carton 1 of 5 show discoloration from the impact of time and some are brittle. They have been placed between sheets of acid-free paper to enhance preservation. Some of the old publications are bound with metal staples. Removing staples would damage the books so they were left in place at the time of processing. However, some staples (especially in old issues of "The Newcomb Arcade") are rusting badly and have stained the paper.

Biographical/Historical note

Jean Bragg is the leading dealer in Newcomb Arts and Crafts in the country. It has been her passion for over twenty years; and she has contributed significantly to the knowledge of the revolutionary Art School and its crafts by lectures and through publication of articles in trade magazines and exhibition and reference catalogs. At a time when it was not yet popular to collect Newcomb crafts, Jean Bragg recognized its exceptional artistic value. Today, with so many new discoveries in the field, she continues to educate the public in collecting Newcomb crafts and to set their value in the marketplace.

From: “The Newcomb Style: Newcomb College Arts & Crafts and Art Pottery Collector’s Guide” by Jean Moore Bragg and Dr. Susan Saward (Jean Bragg Gallery, New Orleans, LA, 2002).
