Biographical/Historical note
Coralie Davis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Newcomb College in 1947, a Master of Education Degree from University of New Orleans, and a Master of Library Science Degree from Louisiana State University. She was a library assistant at the New Orleans Public Library and a draftswoman at Shell Oil Co. She was a librarian at the Louisiana Collection at Earl K. Long Library at the University of New Orleans from 1967 to 2001. She was the honorary vice president of the National United States Daughters of 1812, honorary state president of Louisiana Society U.S. Daughters of 1812, and a member of Spirit of '76, Daughters of the American Revolution, Founders Chapter of Louisiana Colonials, Descendants of the Founders of New Orleans, Dames of the Court of Honor, Louisiana Historical Society, Louisiana Landmarks Society, Friends of the Cabildo, and Preservation Resource Center.
Scope and Contents note
This collection contains memorabilia from various times in Coralie Davis' life. Coralie Davis attended Newcomb College from 1944-47. The collection contains some of her artwork, writings, poetry, and pottery from her years at Newcomb College.
The collection is rich in autobriographical writing including Coralie's diaries from 1941 to 2004 and her travel diaries from 1939-2005. Her diaries are extensive and include entries for almost every day of the year. Her travel diaries are extremely descriptive and were kpt for the many trips she made throughout her life.
The collection also sheds light on her heavy organizational involvement, particuarly with the United States Daughters of 1812 as well as New Orleans society balls and the Krewe of Elenians.
