Biographical/Historical note
Doris Stern Despres was an active woman in New Orleans. She attended Newcomb College from 1929 to 1933, where she was the editor of The Hullabaloo, an athlete, and a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. After she graduated, she became a journalist, businesswoman, life master bridge player, and an artist.
Scope and Contents note
The bulk of this collection is personal documents and periodicals, as well as materials by and about female artists. The material, which covers the period of 1930 to 1995, may be helpful to researchers interested in the subject of women in the twentieth century and female artists.
