Scope and Contents note

Materials are from the New Orleans Women Caucus for Art (NOWCA) and the Women in the Mainstream (WITM) organizations—the latter of which was founded for the purpose of creating the Women’s Pavilion at the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition. Materials mostly include NOWCA and WITM announcements, correspondence, and publications. Also included are Furlong-Gardner’s notebooks with lists of artists and other actors in the art world, minutes from meetings, and miscellaneous information. One essay by Dorothy Furlong-Gardner recaps her viewpoint of how the process of putting together the Pavilion went sour and the fallout that took place between different people involved. Also included are NOWCA publications and newsletters, art magazines, invitationals to opening receptions, calls for entry to juried exhibitions, exhibition booklets presenting the artwork of the women artists featured.
