Biographical/Historical note
This collection documents the family of May Robinson Lanphier Sims, who graduated from Newcomb in 1924. The memorabilia dates from 1865 to the 1950s. Both of May's parents grew up in New Orleans. The bulk of the collection is photographs and includes both her father's and mother's sides of the family. Named people include James Sewall Lanphier (b. 1822, d. 1/25/1896) and Camille Bright Lanphier (b. 9/26/1836, d. 5/26/1898), who were the parents of Edward S. Lanphier and Harry Penrose Lanphier, the grandparents of May Lanphier Sims. Harry Penrose (b. 1872, d. ?) married Hilda Forman Lanphier (b.1873, d. ?). They had one daughter, Hilda. Elbert (a half brother to Harry, called either Lanphier, Penrose or Fairchild) is also included in the photos.

The collection contains a vast assortment of photos, photo albums, documents, news clippings, books, and school (Tulane or Newcomb) memoriabilia of various members or close relatives of the Lanphier-Sims family.
