Emily van Dorn Miller
Born in Jackson, MS, Emily van Dorn Miller graduated from Newcomb College in 1907 and later studied at the New York State Library School, and in 1947 took a course in library administration at Columbia University. Her father was General T. Marshall Miller of New Orleans, formerly the Attorney General for the State of Mississippi. She married Joseph Periam Danton in Chicago on November 29, 1933. During World War II, she was acting librarian at Temple University, Philadelphia. She retired as director of the Birminingham Public Library after six years in 1953.
