Biographical/Historical note
Allison Raynor grew up in Islip, New York. When she was in high school she applied to Rotary International for the opportunity to spend a year in another country as an exchange student. She was accepted and spent the junior year of high school in Bolivia. She wrote letters to family and friends almost daily and her parents saved all of the letters that they and other relatives received.
She graduated from High School in 1974 and then came to Newcomb College. During college she was an active member of the Barracuda synchronized swimming team and the sorority Phi Mu. After earning her B.A. in Spanish and History she began graduate school at Tulane. After one year of graduate school she was awarded a Rotary International fellowship for a year of studying and teaching in Peru.
During her stays in South America she did extensive travelling. She brought back many souvenirs and other memorabilia.
