Biographical/Historical note
Currently located in Denver, Colorado, Wendi Scheider studied art and art history at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and graduated with fine arts and art history from Newcomb College of Tulane. Raised by an artistic family in Memphis, she was influenced by her visits to New Orleans as a child. Schneider began photographing in New Orleans in 1983, initially as reference for oil paintings and eventually focusing on photography. Schneider worked as a designer and copywriter for the Times- Picayune newspaper marketing department, where, in 1987, she produced a re-creation of the Picayune’s Creole Cookbook of 1901. Soon afterwards, Schneider relocated to New York to pursue her career in photography. Throughout her career, Schneider has been commissioned for many fine arts photographs, book covers, portraits, annual reports, editiorial and advertising assignments. She has photographed for Hearst’s Victoria Magazine, The Barkley Group, Penguin Putnam, Random House, Bantam, Simon & Schuster, St. Martin's Press, Little Brown & Co., Warner Books, Sony Records, Young & Rubicam and Florida Atlantic University among others. Her photographs have been exhibited internationally and are included in private collections around the world.
