Project Description
Newcomb Women's Stories from the Storms: An Oral History Project of the Newcomb College Center for Research on Women (NCCROW). NCCROW partnered with Tulane University's Office of Service Learning to train and assist students with the collection of oral histories from Newcomb College alumnae, faculty, staff, and students affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. "Newcomb Women's Stories from the Storms" seeks to document the multiple ways the hurricane and its aftermath has affected these women's lives. In particular we were interested in women's perception of how the hurricanes affected their role in the family, in the community, and/or on campus. The post-Katrina announcement of Tulane University's restructuring and the proposed end of Newcomb College as a degree-granting women's college within Tulane lead us to asked the interviewees to speak about Newcomb's past and unknown future.
Project Coordinator, Cristina Hernande, NCCROW, 2006.

Also included in the collection is a file of blank forms (incomplete), a printout of an email detailing Jim Montgomery's story of Tulane's experience with Hurricane Katrina (dated July 25, 2006), and email correspondence between Newcomb Archivist Susan Tucker and Vorhoff Librarian Bea Calvert regarding statistics on public school enrollments in south Louisiana parishes (2000-2007).
Erin M. Bowers file includes: Hurricanes Research Project Survivor Data Form, Hurricanes Research Project Interviewee's Permission and Release, Hurricanes Research Project Interviewer's Permission and Release, transcript of oral history tape.
