Biographical/Historical note
Kathy Vick was actively involved in politics at the state and national level. She participated in Robert Kennedy's bid for the presidency, and was influential in saving the Democratic National Party from extinction in Louisiana. She eventually rose to the rank of secretary for the Democratic National Commitee.
Obituary of Kathy Vick, published in the Times-Picayune 12 May 2011.
"Kathleen Moore Vick, a native of New Orleans, died Monday, May 9, after a long illness. A graduate of Louise S. McGehee School and Wellesley College. Ms. Vick was active for many years in Democratic Party politics, and served as secretary of the Democratic National Committee through the 2000 Democratic Party National Convention. After graduating from Wellesley, Ms. Vick worked for the Associated Press in New York for two years, and returned to Louisiana and became active in New Orleans Mayor DeLesseps S. Morrison's campaign for Governor. She worked in Washington on a vice presidential campaign of Eugene McCarthy, and then returned to New Orleans and involved herself in state politics, forming a group called the Democratic Alliance that worked to rebuild the Democratic Party after the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. Ms. Vick spent eight years as executive assistant to the President of the Louisiana State Senate. She was elected to the Democratic State Central Committee and served as First Vice Chair for over sixteen years. She was also a member of the Democratic National Committee, served as president of the State Chairs Association, and was the first non-elected official to chair the DNC's Rules Committee. In 1989, she became Secretary of the Democratic National Committee. Besides her behind-the-scenes work for the party, she had great public visibility during televised national conventions when she called the roll of states as the delegates voted on the Democratic nominees for President and Vice President. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kendall Vick, her parents Dr. David W. Moore and Clare Hightower Moore. Survived by a brother, David W. Moore, Jr., of Abita Springs, and a nephew, David W. Moore, III."
