Newcomb College Institute Seeks Intern
Deadline: 5pm on Tuesday, December 11
The Newcomb College Institute is seeking a student intern for the
Spring 2013 semester. This intern will be an integral part of the
Newcomb team, helping with assessment of programs and opportunities at
the Newcomb College Institute and planning and implementing
co-curricular and leadership programs for undergraduate women at Tulane
University. This internship is not paid, but the student will earn
3 credit hours for GESS 457 (Internship Studies). All majors are
welcome to apply. To apply for this internship, please complete the
application form and return it to Charlotte Maheu, PhD in the Newcomb
College Institute (Building #26) or via email at
newcombgsw@tulane.edu.
Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11.
Women & Public Policy Seminar - Application Deadline Extended!
January 14-18, 2013. Applications Due by December 5.
Shape the policy debate happening now. College women, recent grads,
and young professionals are invited to launch their public policy
careers in Washington D.C. Join the Public Leadership Education Network
(PLEN) January 14-18, 2013 for Women & Public Policy, D.C.’s
premiere leadership seminar for young women interested in policy. Build
your professional network. Meet with young leaders from across the
country. Get insider knowledge on healthcare or education during two-day
policy breakout sessions. Learn about career options from women whose
work shapes our nation’s policy agenda every day. Newcomb can provide
grants to cover the costs of the conference. Applications are available

Fridays at Newcomb: Decreasing Domestic Violence and Homicide - Changing the Health Care System Response

A presentation of the recent interdisciplinary and across sectors
initiatives and future directions in research, policy and action to
address intimate partner violence that can improve women’s health and
decrease domestic violence homicide. Jacquelyn Campbell is a
Professor in the John Hopkins University School of Nursing and has
conducted research in the areas of family violence and health
disparities related to trauma.
Want some good reading material for the winter break? Join the Aimee Bender reading group.
Aimee Bender will be coming to campus March 18-21, 2013, as the
Zale-Kimmerling writer-in-residence. In anticipation of her visit, NCI
will be hosting three reading group discussions of her work. Join us for
these fun and lively discussions and then join us for a special reading
group participants lunch with Aimee Bender when she is on campus!

All discussions will be at 4pm at the Newcomb College Institute and
all are open to staff, students, faculty and members of the community.

Discussion on the Benefits of Fair Trade with IN Exchange
Thursday, December 6, 1:15pm
Newcomb College Institute House
IN Exchange will discuss the global benefits of fair trade. Interns
Danna Wasserman and Jolie Demuth will be explaining the experience of
their internship and how it has positively impacted their education.
Their discussion will include a detailed explanation of what fair trade
is and how it directly aides impoverished countries. Additionally, they
will explain the founding of IN Exchange and how it has been diligently
working to help educate both the Tulane and New Orleans community.
You will also be able to enjoy some fair trade chocolates.
