Grant Writing Workshops

Do you want to submit a grant proposal but don't know where to
begin? Come to a Grant Writing Workshop and learn how to turn your
project idea into a well-written proposal. Workshops take less
than an hour and are facilitated by faculty members familiar with the
procedure. Spaces are limited, so register at
fellows@tulane.edu with your workshop preference and you will receive confirmation.
14th Annual Diversity Convocation

This year's convocation features the panel discussion, "Hip-Hop Activism
in the Obama/Tea Party Era," a conversation about hip-hop, the youth
vote and the 2012 Presidential election. The panel will feature Rob Biko
Baker, Maya Rockeymoore, Erica Williams, and Michael Skolnik, and will
be moderated by Bakari Kitwana. The event is hosted by Rap Sessions
together with the O-Multicultural Affairs, Anna Julia Cooper Project,
and Black Women's Health Task Force.

Moon Charania, "Fighting Terrorism Through Queer Bodies: The Perils and
Possibilities of State-Based Freedom Projects" Dr. Charania will
discuss the contemporary condition in Islamabad, Pakistan, following the
first U.S. Embassy-sponsored Gay Pride parade in June 2011. Moon
Charania is a Teaching Postdoctoral Fellow in the Gender & Sexuality
Studies Program.

Leora Batnitzky, "Private Faith, Public Religion: Tensions in Modern Jewish Thought"
Leora Batnitzky is Professor and Chair, Department of Religion,
Princeton University. She is the author of Idolatry and
Representation: The Philosophy of Franz Rosenzweig Reconsidered
(Princeton, 2000), Leo Strauss and Emmanuel Levinas: Philosophy and
the Politics of Revelation (Cambridge, 2006), and most recently,
How Judaism Became a Religion: An Introduction to Modern Jewish
Thought (Princeton, 2011). Her current research focuses on the
conceptual and historical relations between modern religious thought and
legal theory.

2012 Dean's Colloquium with Ira Sorkin

The Witmeyer Dean’s Colloquium is an annual series that invites
distinguished alumni back to campus to discuss their careers. Attorney
Ira Sorkin ’65, best known for representing Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff,
is a Member of the Firm in Lowenstein Sandler’s White Collar Defense
group. A former director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s New
York office, he has also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and
Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division in New York, prosecuting federal
violations from organized crime to securities fraud.

Lunchtime Film Screening: Tootie's Last Suit

This documentary explores the complex rituals, history, and music of New
Orleans' vibrant Mardi Gras Indian culture through the story of Allison
"Tootie" Montana, late Chief of the Yellow Pocahontas, famous for his
elaborately beaded Mardi Gras costumes and his civic activism. (93
