MY RESEARCH

Some sites from the field and from around NOLA.

Zuzu (my dog) also likes rivers.

The Army Corps opened the Bonnet Carre Spillway again this year, on 9 May 2011.  The Bonnet Carre is a release valve for the Mississippi River.  When it’s open, some of the water that would have flowed though the New Orleans segment of the River gets released upstream through the spillway to Lake Pontchartrain.   See photos from our visit to the spillway here.

The Corps also opened the Morganza Control structure for only the second time this year.  This is another release valve for the Mississippi River, but this one is upstream of Baton Rouge.  See photos from our visit to the Morganza Control structure and Old River control structure here.  Thanks to Kayla LeBlanc for showing us around and answering all our questions.
